| Data
preparation |
| Data should be
entered on computer spreadsheets: TILIA (Grimm, 1990) is
preferred but Excel or Lotus are also acceptable. |
| All data
collected should eventually be stored in the modern
pollen deposition (traps) section of the European
Pollen Database. The data will be stored in the
database at the taxonomic level of identification
provided by the author. Please indicate which books have
been used for the pollen type nomenclature. |

| The following
information is required for the database entries (for a
suitable form see Appendix III): |
- Contact person
(the person who is responsible for the data)
- Details of the
transects, grids, or projects in accordance with which
the traps are organized (the rationale behind the
location of the traps)
- Details for
each individual trap: latitude and longitude, altitude
a.s.l., slope, exposure (N, S, E or W), geomorphology,
cover of individual tree species and treeless vegetation
within 100 m radius of the trap, the minimum distance of
trees from the trap, intended nature of the trap
(providing local/under canopy values or regional values
arising from being located in a clear opening)
- Details of each
years trapped assemblage: date of changing the
trap, water volume, list of animals and plant remains
trapped, added Lycopodium (batch No. of tablets
and number of tablets added), laboratory treatment.
